Itinerary

Uluru Tour with Kata Tjuta, Kings Canyon & MacDonnell Ranges (Yulara to Alice Springs) (formerly Outback Camping Adventure)

Day 1

**Day 1 - Uluru ** Make tracks across the sunburnt plains to the captivating domes of Kata Tjuta. These massive red rock formations are believed to be 500 million years old. Continue to Australia’ most iconic landmark, Uluru, arriving in time to witness a magical sunset then continue to your camp, where a hearty dinner awaits. Accommodation: Permanent Eco Tent Meals Included: Dinner Driving Time: 1 hour Walking Distance: 3 kms (approximately 1-hour). Special Information This trip is flexible. As such, the described itinerary is only an example of the form your trip could take. Where you go and what you do can change depending on the group’s interests and weather conditions, however all trips will include visits to the following: Kata Tjuta, Uluru, Kings Canon and the Western MacDonnell Ranges.

Day 2

**Day 2: Uluru Sunrise** An early start this morning is rewarded with an Uluru sunrise. Your guide will take you to one of the significant cultural sights of Uluru, outlining Anangu rock art and passing on one of the site’s creation stories. Enjoy a self-guided, full base walk around Uluru. Once you’ve had lunch, visit the Cultural Centre, and view hand-crafted art by local First Nation Peoples of the Western and Central Deserts. Travel onto our exclusive campsite near the Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon), where the group will have dinner and enjoy the stars. Accommodation: Permanent Eco Tent Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Driving Time: 4 hours Walking Distance: 10kms (approximately 3-hours). **Special Information** The Anangu people have dissuaded visitors from climbing Uluru for decades; as Traditional Owners of the land they feel a deep responsibility for everyone who travels to the area. In 1998, we were among the first tour operators to stop climbing Uluru. The Intrepid Group are proud to be involved with local communities in Uluru and to have an ongoing commitment to providing employment for the Anangu people. You show respect when you choose not to climb Uluru, but walk with Anangu throughout the area and share their stories instead.

Day 3

**Day 3: Kings Canyon** The main attraction of Watarrka National Park is undoubtedly Kings Canyon – a huge gorge enclosed by sheer rock walls many meters high. With its porous sandstone, deep gullies and hidden rock pools, it provides shelter to more than 600 species of native plants and animals. Your guide will point may of these out on a trek that takes in the canyon’s most famous locations such as the Lost City, the Garden of Eden, Amphitheatre, and of course North & South Walls of Kings Canyon. We enjoy lunch before driving during much of the afternoon to our overnight camp in the East MacDonnell Ranges. Accommodation: Swag Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Driving Time: 5.5 hours Walking Distance: 8 kms (approximately 3-hours). **Special Information** For the Kings Canyon Rim Walk it is a requirement that you have a minimum of 3 litres of water with you. Please consider bringing your own refillable water bottles.

Day 4

**Day 4: West MacDonnell Ranges** Often overlooked for its western counterpart, the Eastern MacDonnell Ranges just might be one of the Outback’s best kept secrets. This is the home of the Arrernte people, the Traditional Owners of the land. Learn about their caterpillar dreamtime story on a short walk to Emily Gap, an important spiritual site to the Arrernte people containing galleries of ancient rock paintings. Drive to Jesse Gap followed by Trephina Gorge, where you’ll set off on a one-hour guided walk to see its quartzite cliffs and rich birdlife. After exploring the best of the Eastern MacDonnell Ranges, we drive to our overnight bush camp in the West MacDonnell Ranges. Accommodation: Swag Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Driving Time: 3 hours Walking Distance: 3kms (approximately 1 hour).

Day 5

**Day 5: Eastern MacDonnell Ranges/ Alice Springs** Spend the afternoon exploring the Outback scenery of the Western MacDonnell Ranges. Visit one of the most photographed places in the Red Centre, Ormiston Gorge. Keep your eyes peeled for wallabies while admiring the colourful, sweeping walls surrounding its waterhole. Continue to Redbank Gorge and Ellery Creek Big Hole, a popular spot for a refreshing dip. After a satisfying day spent exploring the West MacDonnell Ranges, we head back to Alice Springs where our epic five–day adventure ends.
