Just outside the city is one of Lithuania's most famous attractions: Grutas Park (www.grutoparkas.lt) A local millionaire who possesses both business acumen and a good dose of gallows humour decided to collect all the hated statues that no one wanted anymore when the Soviet Empire fell apart. The result has been quite impressive: The world's largest collection of Soviet sculptures of Lenin, Stalin and the other great luminaries, enclosed with gulag fences and watchtowers, accompanied by
marching music from loudspeakers, just like in a real gulag camp!
