The Tower of London is a royal castle located on the north bank of the River Thames.
The castle was founded by William the Conqueror after his victory in 1066 over Harald Godwinson at Hastings in England.
The White Tower is the earliest phase of the castle and can be traced back to the foundation of the castle.
For centuries, there were several phases of expansion and rebuilding. and today, The Tower of London is a complex of several buildings which have been used as a fortress, castle, palace, prison, executions, barracks, and now museum. It is also the home of the Crown Jewels.
The well-known Beefeaters watch the Tower of London and one of them will lead you on a very engaging and funny tour, and through the very bloody and dramatic history of the Towers and England. There are 40 in the Tower and they all live there.
