This is a fantastic cultural journey through the cities and provinces of southern China, then down into South East Asia to visit Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. Our route through China stops at several temples and other religious sites from China's three dominant religions, Buddhism, Taoisim and Confucianism, as well as the Terracotta Army near Xi'an and two of China's sacred mountains, Wudang Shan and Emei Shan. One of the highlights of this trip is a fantastic 3-day cruise on the Yangtze River among Chinese locals. We travel through magnificent scenery near the Three Gorges, stopping off at various sites along the way. Farther south we have an optional trek along the imposing Tiger Leaping Gorge, a very peaceful place in contrast with our other stops in China, and a visit to the Chengdu Giant Panda Centre. With about 15 days in Laos, we have plenty of time to slowly explore this beautiful and serene country, with its history, beautiful people and amazing landscapes. By the time we get to Cambodia we will be fully in tune with the Mekong and its stunning sunset views, but there are few better than at Kratie in the northeast of Cambodia. Cambodia's modern history is not a happy one, but Phnom Penh wears it with resilience in public and no visitor can be left unmoved by their visit to this lovely Mekong City. Of course, no trip to this country would be complete without a thorough exploration of the many incredible temples surrounding Angkor Wat.
  • Explore the sights of the bustling Thai capital of Bangkok
  • Explore the vast royal complex of Bangkok's Grand Palace
  • Full day tour of the incredible temples at Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom
  • Explore the amazing pre-Angkorian temple complex of Sambor Prei Kuk
  • Spend time in the chaotic Cambodian capital Phnom Penh
  • Study Cambodia's history at the "Killing Fields" and Tuol Sleng Prison Museum
  • Guided trip to the Mekong River in search of freshwater dolphins
  • Cambodian family homestay experience
  • Visit '4000 islands' at Don Khon in Laos
  • Visit Laos incredible 10th-century temple of Wat Phou
  • Travel spectacular mountain roads of northern Laos
  • Relax in the tranquil city of Luang Prabang
  • This is a comfortable journey through southern China and into the countries of South East Asia, staying mostly in hotels and guesthouses. A well-paced trip with plenty of two and three night stays.
